David Suzuki believes that the new solution for the Sydney Tar Ponds to burn and bury, is a irresponsible one. It is only going to delay the problem. In the future the waste that is buried, even though it is encased in concrete, is going to leech into the soil. This may not happen for 50 years, but it is going to happen, and when it does, it will take another 30 years to figure out the solution.
The Sydney area has waited this long for a solution, I think that it should be done RIGHT.
How do you get rid of stuff like that? Can't we send it to Mars or something?
Let's also take into account the costs. I know, I know...'the evironment is more important then money,' but where is this money going to come from and who is going to pay for it?

Who is going to pay? The same people who paid for endless studies, and for consultants to come up with solutions that they never followed up on.
For solutions there are processes now that will actually break down PCBs into less harmful "bits". If I come across a link I will post it
Well I must say I am shocked. Here is a man who is not accountable for anything, who never had to deal with real live government problems, such as budgets, paying nurses, building roads, supporting an education system.
All these things cost money and it is up to the government to try and best manage priorities. That is the problem, the government is trying to take a middle ground solution. Of course it will never go far enough to satisfy everyone. Some people will thing they government is spending too much, others, not enough. Rather than taking the word of someone who has been behind the preverbal sky is falling (everyone remember Acid Rain in the 1980s?) for years, perhaps I will take a look at the actual environment assessment that was done.
