More people are taking antidepressants in US in recent years, and I think the trend will continue in any foreseeable future. Is it common to prescribe antidepressants in Canada and UK? Is it something that you can get easily?

Im not sure...ask a depressed person. I am not sure where to go with this cause well seems that anti-depressants are given to people with depression and mental problems. If you searched health canada you might be able to get some more info on stat rates.

I think that many people think that to be happy, you have to be happy all the time, and that because you feel a bit crappy one day that you're depressed, and then get depressed about the fact that they're not blissfully happy all the time.
Of course, doctors will dish out anti-depressants like they're smarties, and people will become addicted to these substances over time, since every time they're feeling a bit out of sorts, they'll just use the doctors solution - pop a pill.
Nearly half the peole I've met in my life are on something or another. It's really far more prevalent than one would think!!!
Exactly - I've seen quite a number of people who've been prescribed Prozak just because they had a bit of a downturn in their life and I'm thinking, are doctors just so overworked that this is the only solution they can provide?
Non-clinical depression is a bit of a complex beast in that it has an infinite number of causes depending on each individual. The best aid is to find a really good friend to talk to, preferably someone who won't judge you even if the cause appears trivial to the outside world. As Einstein once said - everything is relative.
Drugs can play their part for sure especially keeping people out of the dark place, but there really needs to be something much more than drugs but not so called professionals who think everyone's mind works like a text book. Almost a kind of one to one therapy service if you like with people who'll listen and actually care. It's not a quick fix, but it can go a long way towards helping...
