If you read Jacques Demers memoirs, written by Mario LeClerc, you will learn one of his biggest secrets, he can't read or write.

This is an issue that most people today think is bunk, but the truth is that there are still a significant part of Canada's popluation the age of 16 that can't read, or can't read well enough to function in today's society.

No one thinks that this is significant?

It doesnt surprise me, he spent all his life having someone do his work or playing hockey academics wasnt always top. I talked to some professors who worked at Big Ten Universitys in the USA and met college players, some top names who couldnt even read and hardly even write.

I am guessing that this was recently and that these people were rather young.

I can't figure out how you could cope that way. If all that you can do is "make your mark" and can't even read it ......

How would a coach be able to keep track of stats, lineups etc....they would have to remember all of the great play ideas that come to them.

Does this only happen in sport? Do you think that there are other professions that someone could excel at but not be able to read the morning newspaper?
