The NDP is planning on introducing a bill that would outlaw any further private health care facilities. But allow the existing ones to remain open.
Layton, "We're not going to go on a rampage suggesting that there be a closure of existing facilities, but we've got to stop the hemorrhaging that's going on, and the dangerous trend which is taking place in different ways in different parts of the country"

I personally am in support of two tier health care. Free health care should be given to familys who cannot AFFORD paying for health care. There are lots of people in this country who are well to do and just milk the system for all it is worth. The end result, a debt. Currently there is two tier in montreal and I guess it works just fine. I believe I read you pay X amount of dollars for some many visits every 6 months/year and each visit is limited to 30 minutes. I know personally if I was making excess of 50 grand a year I would go to private health care.
I am still not sure if I am willing to support a 2 teir health care system. If done right it can be a great thing that everyone benefits, if not then like always the poor suffer the most.
Right now I think that the best way is not to be bullied into the form of health care that Alberta wants, they feel that they have the money so that they can do whatever that they want, I think that they should slow down.....Or if they wish leave like Quebec is always trying to. What is going to happen in 50 years when the oil is gone and they have NOTHING, just a bunch of ranches. Cows will not sustain a country

No but health care is losing more and more money. While free health care will always lose cash we also have to face facts that wait times and access is way too long for some people.

I agree that a private clinc may free up some other services, but who is going to be staffing them? There is already problems getting doctors for the ICU in Halifax, let alone another private clinc. If there is a way to introduce private healthcare without hurting the public one then I am all ears. The fact is that I have not seen a definte plan for the implementation of the private and protection of the public
You say that public health care is losing money, I am not sure what you mean. It doesn't generate revenue, therefore it can't MAKE money. It is paid by tax payers.
