I read in the Hill Times today that there are two seperate bills that are going to be presented in the next session. One is from Peter Stoffer of the NDP and the other is from Joe Preston of the Conservative Party. Mr. Stoffer is going to get the first shot at this as he is scheduled 15th.
I am not sure what I feel about this, and I think that I am going to have to think about it for a minute. However in the last number of elections I made a point NOT to vote for a "party". As far as I could tell there really wasn't that much difference between them. Sure they all promised different things but I doubt that they would do anything differently if they actually got elected, therefore I voted for the candidate that I felt would represent our area the best.
I am starting to think that the better way to do it, rather than banning floor crossing outright is to hold a by-election after the fact. Say, I want to join another party I could but then there would be a by-election within 6 months. I think that this is the best way of doing it, and without reading the entire motion I think that this is what Mr Stoffer, and Mr Preston are thinking of.
What about everyone else? What are your feelingon the whole matter?

The point of a democracy and a free country is the right and freedom to choose your voice and politics. So barring someone from crossing the floor would be a contradiction of that.

However the person that is doing the crossing is really just the voice of the people who voted them in. I think it should be those people who should ultimately make the choice about the floor crossing
