Last winter a yound child was playing on a hill and slide down into a tree. Unfortunately he was killed instantly. My first reaction is what an unfortunate accident, and I felt for the parents. however I am not sure any more. The parents are sueing the city because the city let people slide down the hill without making it safe. (More Info)

When I was growing up, and even still today we used to slide through trees on our GTs, and go off jumps to see how high we could get. Yes it was danergous but it was fun and we were always careful.

I am wondering why when things like this happen parents NEVER look to themselves for blame. They ALWAYS try to pass that along to someone else. If there was a tree on the hill, and it is public property, it is not the job of the city to make it safe for sledding, but teh job of the parent to make sure it is safe for their child. Since sledding is not the primary purpose od said hill, I don't think that the city should be held responsible, and next year the hill will more than likely be cut off to any other youngster that may want to have some fun.

no this is simply bad parenting. We rode our GTs through the trees. Guess what our parents would bust our asses freak out and say your going to kill yourself....

Yep, my parents were the same. Why don't parents do that anymore?

Probably most do, but it's the tiny number of money grabbing parents you hear about. Of course when it comes out that they are simply trying to cash in on their sons death, well, I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of the lynch mob.

It's a very sad story, but not one where blame should be apportioned IMO.
