Press Releases: Calling President Bush

Posted on Tuesday, August 30 @ 07:09:13 CDT by capebretoner

OTTAWA – Conservative Natural Resources critic John Duncan today proposed that Canadians get involved in the softwood lumber dispute by calling the White House themselves.

“If Paul Martin and the Liberals are too shy to make a phone call on behalf of Canada, then Canadians should call President George Bush themselves,” said Duncan. “While Martin dithers and his ministers criticize the US with their empty rhetoric, the Canadian lumber industry continues to suffer.”

After the NAFTA ruling of August 11th, the Prime Minister promised BC premier Gordon Campbell that he would call President Bush. Eighteen days later still no call has been made.

“This government has repeatedly shown that it is either unwilling or unable to stand up for Canada,” said Duncan. “I urge Canadians to call the White House switchboard at 202-456-1414, and leave a message calling on the President to respect the final August 11th NAFTA softwood ruling in Canada’s favour.”
