I say we just take the damn thing anyways. And even if Denmark gets the Island we should just intall everything in the near by area to keep an out look. It doesnt take a genius to realize that the ice caps are melting and the waterways between Canada and Russia/Asia will now be opened up and easier to access.
The fact is that Canada does have the legal right to this island. If Canada bowes to this and the ice caps melt, how many more islands are people going to claim to be theirs?

Im not sure why denmark cares about this island considering demark isnt anywheres near Canada, it just happens to protect greenland and so by def it gets to take bits and pieces of the arctic.
That is why. When the drilling starts and the North passage is open the ships that are going to be coming out of there into the Atlantic will have to pay what ever country has land closest. And in this case it is the rock that everyone is fighting over. That little rock could be worth billions in the next few decades. Can you imagine all of the ship traffic that would be travelling from China to Europe and vise-versa? It will be HUGE....
